Nichkhun, a Thai member of K-pop boy group 2PM, is establishing a presence in his mother country as an actor, his agency JYP Entertainment said Wednesday. Born in the U.S. to Thai-Chinese parents, Nichkhun, 31, will star in the Thai TV series “My Bubble Tea” with actors from Thailand including Phiravich Attachitsataporn (Mean Phiravich). “My Bubble Tea” ― which is based on a novel ― revolves around three characters caught in a love triangle due to “magic bubble tea.” It is an original series of VIU, a video streaming provider based in Hong Kong. The drama will premiere in 2020.
Nichkhun will be seen on the silver screen next year too. JYP said he has been shooting a Thai flick tentatively titled “Cracked” with actress Pat Chayanit. The horror-thriller movie unfolds bizarre stories taking place after a prominent painter commits suicide. “Cracked” is the product of CJ Major Entertainment, a joint venture of Korea’s entertainment company CJ ENM and Thai’s largest theaters operator Major Cineplex Group.
Nichkhun, whose full name is Nichkhun Buck Horvejkul, proved his acting talent in the Thai film “Brother of the Year” that led the country’s box office in 2018. The Thai star debuted in Korea in 2008 as a 2PM member with the album “Hottest time of the day.” The group released a string of hit tracks including “Heartbeat” (2009). Nichkhun staged his first solo gig, “NICHKHUN SOLO CONCERT ‘HOME’ IN SEOUL,” in May.
