“SBS Super Concert in Gwangju” was held at Gwangju World Cup Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sunday to wish for the success of the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, bringing together a total of Gwangju-born stars.
A total of 30,000 visitors, including some 10,000 overseas KPOP fans from 65 countries around the world including Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas, filled the audience and standing seats with cheers. As evidenced by the popularity of K-pop stars, few empty seats were seen in the audience.
As the concert began and darkness fell, various colorful LED cheering sticks brightened the concert hall and the fans who took pictures with their cell phones and cameras shone as bright as the stage.
Starting with the Cherry Bullet, the concert featured a total of 10 K-pop artists in the order of Nature, The Boyz, IZ*ONE, TXT, N.Flying, Momoland, Hong Jin-young, TWICE and BTS.
The KPOP stars gave brief greetings in languages such as English, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish, and even thanked fans around the world for their fluent foreign language skills.
The weather was quite chilly after the rain stopped, but the cheering section was hot with fans’ enthusiasm for singing along with the group.
The highlight of the concert was by far BTS. The enthusiasm in the audience reached its peak when BTS slowly emerged on a lift from the center of the stage at around 8:50 p.m.
Starting with the new song “Boy With Luv,” BTS sang “D.N.A.,” “Make It Right” and “IDOL.”
The 21-minute performance ended after several minutes of heavy firecrackers. The flashy fireworks seemed to signal the success of the concert and the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
Fans, who realized that the flashy fireworks were completely out and that the men’s concert was over, shed tears as they were thrilled and sad to see BTS off.
