The 20th Inje Icefish Festival will be held from January 18 to 27 around Bingeoho Lake in Inje-gun, Gangwon-do. Participants can catch Bingeo, or smelt, a small freshwater fish, as well as enjoy leisure sports and eat delicious foods. This year’s theme is having fun in winter surrounded by nature, and there will be a variety of new programs matching this theme.
Originally Inje Icefish Festival was scheduled to open on the 10th, but because of the warm weather, it was postponed. Winter festivals in Gangwon Province, which had been reeling from the warm temperature and winter rain, are taking a breath of excitement in preparing for the festival as temperatures plummeted to -14.8 degrees on Jan. 14th.
Suitable for its reputation as the coldest part of Korea, at Inje Icefish Festival you can see a huge amount of snow and ice. Because it will be much colder than you can imagine (especially if you are from a warm country), please wear as many clothes as you can to avoid catching a cold. As if you came to the Frozen Kingdom, enjoy the winter and take many memorable pictures!
It is not just a festival where you can only enjoy the snow and ice, but a variety of winter activities are prepared. Almost every activity that can be done on the ice, as well as ice fishing, which is why the festival became famous, is available at Inje Icefish Festival. You can ride ATV, a sled, and even skate! Of course, your kids will definitely love this place and they won’t want to leave, but adults will enjoy it just as much, I think! You will be able to regain the child’s heart for the first time in a long time and enjoy winter with your family or lovers.
At the festival field, there are many zones you can enjoy different activities. In the Drone Zone, visitors can watch drones operated by pilots and participate in various programs. The Snow Village will be set as Inje in the ‘60s and visitors can borrow school uniforms to try on. Main events include ice fishing, ice sledding, skating, and more. Ice fishing is free but visitors will need to pay a fee to borrow fishing tools and buy bait. Additional fee is required for ice fishing in tents, ice sledding, skating, and other programs.
Inje has the nickname “Inje from heaven” which is because of its beautiful natural scenery. Can you imagine how beautiful that area is by seeing Korean people’s making its nickname like that? All members of your family will enjoy this festival in this beautiful city.
At Inje Icefish Festival, a variety of different types of fishing can be enjoyed by people of all ranges of age. There are different kinds of fishing equipment you can pick depending on the users’ ages. The best part of this festival is that you can eat the fish you caught at the site! They will prepare a cooking area, so just hand the fish you caught to the staff there, and they’ll fry your fish for free! I don’t need to explain how delicious freshly fried fish must be, right?
