BLACKPINK has become the first KPOP group to have two Platinum badges in the download category certified by Gaon Chart.
According to Gaon Certification, released on the morning of Dec. 12, BLACKPINK’s album “SQUARE UP” title track “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and the song “Forever Young” were listed on the download category Platinum Certification List.
BLACKPINK is the first group to receive Platinum certification with two songs in the Gaon Chart Downloads category.
In addition, BLACKPINK was certified platinum in the album category with “SQUARE UP” and “KILL THIS LOVE” and has also become the main character of platinum badges in the streaming category with “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and “SOLO” by Jennie.
Gaon Chart, an official Korean pop music chart, certifies and publishes cumulative sales if they exceed a certain number since its release on January 1, 2018.
In the album category, if the accumulated sales of 250,000 or more copies are sold, Platinum will be accepted, and Million will be certified if the number exceeds 1 million.
In the download segment, the cumulative sales of 2.5 million units are Platinum and 10 million is Diamond certification. Streaming will provide Platinum and Billian certifications for 100 million Cumulative Usage.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK ranked 66th with “KILL THIS LOVE” in “The Top 100 Songs of the Year” released by Billboard reporters.
Billboard commented on the song, “For the first time, it reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and presented a new standard.” At the time of its release, “KILL THIS LOVE” ranked 41st on Billboard’s main chart “Hot 100” and 24th on Billboard 200, and stayed on both charts for four consecutive weeks to record the first time for a K-pop girl group.
BLACKPINK is also working hard to prepare for the release of its new album in early 2020 while hosting a Japanese dome tour.
