K-pop sensation BTS has topped Japan’s Oricon Album Sales Chart for the first half of 2020.
According to the chart, Friday, the group’s fourth album “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” has sold about 429,000 copies in Japan alone.
The last international artist to top the category was legendary pop star Michael Jackson 36 years with his iconic album “Thriller” in 1984.
The achievement is a new record for the group ― its previous best was third place with the 2019 album “MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona.”
The group’s latest album swept multiple international charts including “No. 1 album” on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and the U.K. Official Albums Chart Top 100.
Meanwhile, the group’s fourth Japanese album “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ― THE JOURNEY ― ” is slated for release on July 15. The main song “Stay Gold” will be pre-released on Friday at 6 p.m.
