K-pop boy band EXO’s lead vocalist Chen, whose wife had a daughter in April, has come under attack after releasing a soundtrack for SBS’s new romance TV series “Do You Like Brahms?” on Tuesday.
Chen’s sentimental “Your moonlight” was rated 1.5 out of 5 on local streaming site Melon as of Wednesday afternoon. The score is far lower than those of other soundtracks ― Punch’s “Close To Me” and god’s “Confession” received 3.9 and 4.3 points, respectively.
More than 16,000 people have rated Chen’s song, leaving some 4,500 comments ― mostly negative opinions about the singer.
“You dealt a blow to EXO’s image and hamper other members’ activities … Leave the group and do whatever you like,” one online user wrote.
“The (poor) rating mirrors your reality,” reads another comment.
EXO members Chanyeol and Sehun have also been criticized by some followers for promoting Chen’s song on their social media pages.
Many fans have demanded Chen leave the group ― or be kicked out ― since announcing news of his marriage in January, while others have shown unwavering support.
SM Entertainment, EXO’s agency, said in February that Chen would not quit. Nevertheless, Chen has mostly avoided public attention until the release of his latest song.
Chen debuted as an EXO member in 2012. His first solo album “April, and a flower” hit shelves last April.
