First Snow in Korea 2018!

With heavy rain warnings in Yangyang and northern mountains in Gangwon-do Province in the morning of October 18, snow fell for the first time this year in the highlands of Mt. Seoraksan.

It’s 16 days earlier than last year!

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration in Gangwon Province, the rain, which was falling on Mt. Seoraksan, turned into snow around 4:50 a.m. on the same day, accumulated about 1 centimeter until 6 a.m.

Last year, it snowed in the highlands of Mt. Seoraksan on November 3. The first snow of this year fell 16 days earlier than last year. The snow-covered highlands of Mt. Seoraksan were combined with red and white snow to create a unique landscape.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) predicts up to 3 centimeters of snow will fall through the afternoon in the northern highlands.

Meanwhile, the Yeongdong area is cloudy with rain falling in most areas, with 20 millimeters of rain falling per hour at the center of the northern mountains.
