As the cold weather begins, the ski resort in Gangwon-do will open its slope for the first time in Korea on the 17th November and start the ‘2017/2018 ski season’.
The Yongpyeong ski resort in Pangchang-gun, Gangwon Province, will open the pink slope on the day and greet skiers and snowboarders. This ski resort is open from the pink slope. New Red and Yellow Slope, which are in the midst of artificial snow, will be determined by watching weather situations.
On the same day, the Phoenix Pyeongchang Ski Resort opens its first slope of a penguin and commences its first winter season operation.
The Yongpyong and Phoenix Pyeongchang ski resorts opened on November 4 last year.
However, the temperature is not falling much this year, and the artificial snow conditions are not right, so it will be opened 13 days later than last year. Last year, after opening the ski resort, the ice was not frozen properly so people were having a hard time.
Yongpyeong Ski Resort has prepared a full-scale season, including 84 snowmaking machines on two slopes. The Phoenix Pyeongchang ski resort also making artificial snow used 70 snowmaking machines from 31st of last month.
The ski resort is planning to hold various events such as lift, rental discount and free in commemoration of opening.
In addition, the Hongcheon Vivaldi Park ski resort will open on the 24th November, including Jeongseon High One ski resort, and the other ski resorts will open next week and will commence the winter sports season.
An official of the ski resort said, “Since the first opening last year, it has been difficult because of the weather, so it was opened later this year,” he said. “We will open more slopes opening further according to the weather conditions.”
