Korea Tourism Organization’s Photo exhibit shows beauty of Korea

People walk over the bridge with torches in their hands, hoping for a good harvest this year and for harmony to prevail in the town. Such excitement and dynamism of a traditional folk play is condensed into a single photo. It’s Lee Sangwoo’s “Gangneung Hapyeong Dapgyo Nori” that received the grand prize in the 46th Korea Tourism Photo Contest. The annual contest is co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

The KTO announced on Sept. 5 that it selected around 100 prize-winning works among the 12,500 entries it received. The selected works, including the eight main winners, vividly express the joy and emotion of tourism in Korea.

A photo titled “Pungmul Nori” that captures the life and passion of a traditional folk music performance won the top prize. As for the special prize category for non-Koreans, “Behind A Girl,” a photo taken by Pham Tuyen from Vietnam, won the prize.

The prize-winning works will be open to the public at KTO’s website (http://enugallery.visitkorea.or.kr). The organization will be using the photos to promote Korean tourism around the world.
