A single-person booth to test for COVID-19 on March 16 was launched in Seoul for faster and safer diagnosis, Korea’s second innovation for the outbreak after the drive-through screening clinic.

Developed by H-plus Yangji Hospital in the city’s Gwanak-gu District, the booth is 700mm wide, 700mm long and 2,050mm high and has a sound pressure facility and UV lamp. Doctors safely swab a sample from the patient inside the booth using gloves equipped on the booth and talk to the patient via intercom.

The booth has reduced inconvenience from existing makeshift screening clinics and adopted the advantages of drive-through examination. It also was installed in consideration of those with no vehicles.

Four such booths are being used, with each able to test up to 10 people in an hour. Booths for children are also available.
