Cop-comedy “Extreme Job” has stayed atop the box office for the fourth consecutive weekend, becoming the second-most-viewed film of all time Sunday, 28 days after it hit the local theaters.

It remains to be seen whether the low budget film can attract another three million to break the record of “The Admiral: Roaring Currents.”

According to the Korean Film Council, “Extreme Job” attracted 945,408 moviegoers over the weekend, setting a new record with its accumulated total of 14.5 million of tickets sold since it opened in January.

Directed by Lee Byoung-heon, better known for past works such as “Twenty” and “What a Man Wants,” the film stars Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Ha-nee and Jin Seon-kyu.

The comedy revolves around narcotics detectives going undercover in the guise of fried chicken restaurant staff to stake out an organized crime ring.

On top of the rankings is the 2014 film “The Admiral,” which sold 17.6 million tickets, the most watched film of all time here, meaning “Extreme Job” has to attract over 3 million further to beat that.

The historical-action film, directed by Kim Han-min, is a story of Yi Sun-sin, the most revered admiral in Korean history. Following his prior success with the “War of the Arrows” in 2011, the film focuses on the historic Battle of Myeongryang in 1597 during the Japanese invasion of Korea, where Yi, played by veteran actor Choi Min-sik, uses strategy to destroy 133 Japanese warships with only 12 ships under his command. The battle is regarded as one of Yi’s greatest victories.
