The 8th Namhae German Village Beer Festival, modeled after Munich’s own Oktoberfest will be held from October 6th to 8th  at the picturesque German Village in Namhae-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province where authentic German beer and homemade sausage can be enjoyed.

The Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October since 1810.

The Namhae German Village was built for Koreans who worked as miners and nurses in Germany in the 1960s, who returned home to settle down in Namhae, the fifth largest island in Korea. This village is often referred to as the “Little Germany of Korea.”

Visitors can experience the festival culture of Germany’s Oktoberfest at the German village festival by providing food through various events such as German village residents’ Latin dance performances, German wine tasting, German beer and German sausages.

During the festival, the Namhae-gun County operates a temporary parking lot at 15,700m² in the middle of the flower in the vicinity of Samdong Elementary School. A shuttle bus runs from here to the German town.

“The Namhae German Village beer festival is a unique event where visitors can experience German culture,” said a Namhae-gun County representative, inviting tourists to come and explore the seaside town.
