North Korea’s participation in the PyeongChang Olympic Games

22 North Korean athletes will participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, which will take place from 9th of next month. The first ice-hockey team to be formed for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games is expected to have 12 North Korean players twice as many as expected.

According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach announced the results of the ‘North-South Olympic Games’ meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, The size of North Korean athletes has approved 46 people. 22 athletes, and 24 officers (including coaches). Twenty-one reporters from the North also come. It already exceeded the expectation that it would consist of 20 players including 10 players and 10 officers.

North Korean athletes play in five events at the Olympics. The first female ice hockey team in Olympic history will add twelve North Korean athletes to our 23 players. More than twice as many as 5 to 6 people are expected to join. The total number of entries is 35, which is 12 more than the other teams. It is the same as the 22 entries in the competition. Three North Korean players are required to play each game. Even though the figure skating fair has secured the qualification for the Olympic Games, it is now possible to play in Pyeongchang.

On the short track, a 1,500m man Jung Kwang-bum and a 500m Choi Eun-sung will receive a wild card (special qualification ticket) to come to Pyeongchang.

In cross-country skiing, two players, Han Chun-kyung, Park Il-cheol and Lee Young-kyul, won wild cards. In Alpine skiing, three players, Choi Myung-gwang, Kang Seong-il and Kim Ryu-hyeon, also play.

The two Koreas march on the Korean Peninsula in the name of “KOREA” at the opening and closing ceremonies of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The two jockeys consist of a male player and a female athlete selected from North and South respectively.

The women’s ice hockey team is wearing a special uniform drawn on the Korean peninsula. The English abbreviation for a single team is ‘COR’. In French, ‘COREE’ abbreviated ‘COR’ was decided. The official name of our country is abbreviated in English, ‘KOR’, and English in North Korea is ‘DPRK’.
