Singers Irene and Seulgi of K-pop girl group Red Velvet are paving a new way for the group with the success of its first unit group IRENE & SEULGI.

Released on Monday, the unit’s first album “Monster” has floated to the top of multiple pieces of music streaming charts, including Bugs, VIBE, and iTunes chart in 45 regions worldwide. The duo revealed that both were “confident of their chemistry,” despite being the first to have a separate act from the group. “We spent the most time together among the members, so there’s a different sense of chemistry (between the two) than what we showed as the group,” Seulgi said in a written interview, Monday.

She noted that the artists deviated from the group’s bubbly and soft images for a more powerful look. IRENE & SEULGI, the Red Velvet unit group has topped the charts with ‘Monster.’
Irene added, “(The title song ‘Monster’) made me think of two words ‘different,’ and ‘powerful.'” As this unit act has long been anticipated among fans, both said they tried their best to be meticulous in the production to meet fans’ expectations.

“We put a lot of effort into every step, from recording, choreography, and the music video to visual parts of the album, thinking what else we can do for our fans,” Irene said. As for their goals with the unit act, Seulgi said she wanted to entertain fans with a performance-based album. “It offers an array of visuals on stage like the look-a-like styling and synchronized dance moves, so I hope fans enjoy our performances,” she said.
