The “Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink” will be in operation for 52 days, from December 20, 2019 (Fri.) to February 6, 2020 (Sun.), as a place where citizens can ice skate in the middle of the city and fully enjoy Frozen Seoul. Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink was visited by more than 120,000 citizens last year (2018-2019), becoming a major attraction in Seoul that represents winter in Seoul.
There will be an opening ceremony for the Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink 5 p.m. on December 20 (Fri.) for the operation of the 2019-2020 season, and the rink will be open to citizens free of charge until 8 p.m. on an opening day.
The Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays (Sun.-Thurs.) and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekends (Fri.-Sat.) and public holidays. On Christmas Eve and Day (Dec. 24 and 25) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31), the rink will be open until 1:30 a.m. the next day.
The entrance fee is frozen at KRW 1,000, the same as the last year, allowing visitors to enjoy skating without any financial burden. The entrance fee includes ice skate rental and one ticket allows for one hour of skating. For the safety of users, safety helmets are lent for free.
Additionally, there is a separate rink prepared for visitors who want to experience curling, an ice sport that attracted a lot of attention during the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
There are also a variety of programs that visitors can enjoy with their family, friends, and partners for each special day, such as the weekend, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, offering citizens the opportunity to enjoy skating and make beautiful memories. On the weekends and public holidays, various performances will be held to make the skating more enjoyable for citizens, such as K-POP, circus, magic, and more.
[If the air quality is at a “bad” level, operation of the ice skating rink will be suspended immediately] As the Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink is an outdoor ice skating rink operated in the heart of the city, operation will be suspended when ultrafine particulate matter levels are above a certain level in order to prioritize and protect the health of the citizens. Citizens can check the air pollution level on the website, which will be updated in real-time in consideration of citizens’ travel time.
