Snow fell on some parts of the central region including Seoul on the afternoon of Sunday, 8th April, and cold weather of the peak was followed.
As of 6:30 pm today, some areas of northern Seoul, northern Gyeonggi Province, northern Gangwon, North Korea, are snowing.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said it has accumulated 0.5 cm of snow at Uijeongbu, Gapyeong, Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, and 0.4 cm at Paju in Gyeonggi-do. Snowfall of Yanggu coast and Jinbulyeong of Gangwon were 3.4 ㎝ and 1.4 ㎝, respectively. However, the results of laser and CCTV observations are not recognized as official records of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
The Meteorological Agency estimates that the eastern part of Gyeonggi-do, Yeongseo in Gangwon-do and the northeast part of Gyeongbuk will be snowed by 1 to 5 cm, but snow in the Seoul area will melt immediately because the road is wet.
The Meteorological Agency predicted that the snow and rain in Seoul will end at 9 pm and the rest of the area will be finished at night.
However, the snow and rain that fell like this froze during the night, and there may be places where the roads are freezing.
The winds are very strong in the southern coast, Jeju Island, and Gangwon Mountain, so the temperature will be low, and there are lots of windy places in other areas.
Gangwon Mountain, Busan, Ulsan, Jeonnam, South Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeju-do have issue a preliminary special weather statement of strong winds.
The Meteorological Administration reported a lower temperature distribution than normal in the morning of the 9th, and expects the weather to be released somewhat later.
An official of the Korea Meteorological Administration said, “It is not unusual for the weather to be cold, especially in the north-western part of the country. It is often snowing in April in northern Seoul”
The official explained that the snow was not officially recorded by the Korea Meteorological Agency in consideration of the amount of snow and the place of landing.
