South Korea to ease quarantine guidelines for overseas arrivals
The travel industry expressed its support for the revision of the law, which includes the flexible application of the quarantine period for overseas arrivals.
The Korea Travel Business Association (KATA) delivered an official letter expressing its support for the revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Prevention and Management of Infectious Diseases, which was announced by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on March 26.
Not only has the KATA been insisting, but if the amendment is implemented, the mandatory self-isolation period for overseas arrivals, which is set for 14 days, is likely to have a positive impact on the resumption of in-outbound international exchanges.
The key point of the revision is that it allows the current quarantine target to flexibly operate the isolation period (self-reliance or facilities).
The revision changed the current quarantine period standard, which is “until the end of the maximum incubation period for the infectious disease,” to “until the date set by the head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention within the maximum incubation period.”
Regarding the background of the revision, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained, “We are trying to flexibly operate the isolation period considering the isolation period is being applied uniformly with the maximum incubation period of infectious diseases, or if antibodies form from vaccination.”
In an official letter to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, KATA ▲ Vaccinations in Korea and Korea are smoothly conducted, and the government’s quarantine is thoroughly carried out, and the people follow personal hygiene and quarantine guidelines.
Along with the move to introduce the rights, tourism exchanges through self-isolation exemptions are being pursued, and the travel industry said it was in favor of the revision, arguing that the reduction of the quarantine period should be a prioritized priority.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) will receive opinions on the revision of the enforcement ordinance by April 15 and follow up the procedures. Unless there is a decisive opposition to the operation of the flexible isolation period, it is likely to be implemented according to the revision.
