What To Do in Korea: During Hot Summer in Byeonsanbando National Park, Jeollabuk-do

Summer Season in South Korea is just like a regular hot day in my country, Philippines. Just minus the humidity and the threat of rain every minute. I had visited my sister in Jeonju, South Korea after the Summer Season in the Philippines. That’s why it’s funny because when I arrived in South Korea, Summer was just starting and it’s an extended Summer Vacation for me. I guess Summer Season really loves me.

To beat the heat and humidity, we went to Byeonsanbando National Park, the only National Park in the Country that consists both of the oceans and mountains. It is located in Silsang-gil, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Estimated 1-2 hours away from my sister’s home, Jeonju City. The park is divided into two large sections which are the shore and inner area. It also consists of tourist attractions in the area like temples, monuments, camping areas, falls, valleys. view decks and historical sites.

These are the fun ACTIVITIES we did and you can do during your stay!

  1. SEASIDE CAMPING

My brother-in-law and I set-up the huge tent together, it’s actually our first time to set-up this kind of tent and it took us 30 minutes to make it. We also prepared lunch in the tent while enjoying the cold breeze and picturesque view of the ocean. Seaside camping is good for relaxing and unwinding for the whole family. We stayed in the Park overnight.

2. DRINK ICE COLD BEVERAGES

You can find a convenience store and cafes in the area. Drinking these Ice cold beverages under the heat of the sun is the best thing ever! You can choose whether it’s an Ice cold coffee, juices, sodas, and teas.

3. FINDING SEASHELLS, CLAMPS, AND CRABS!

When it is around afternoon until the night, the sea comes backward (low-tide) and people are starting to go out and bring their weapons! Because everyone is on the wide shore digging for shells, sea-clamps, and crabs. Until the night, we are still on the shore with our flashlights, we are like looking and digging for some kind of treasures.

My niece and nephews also enjoyed digging and playing on the shore!

4. SEASHELL LOCKS

If Namsan Tower in Seoul has their Love Locks, In Byeonsan they have SEASHELL LOCKS! Where you can write your messages and expressions about life, love or for your loved ones. It is a symbol that you have visited the area and also a creative way of preserving memories, so when you come back, you can see it and re-read the message you had written on it.

5. HIKING

I tried to explore alone the mountain part of the park and it is so amazing! There are a lot of view decks where you can see the majestic view of the ocean and mountains of Byeonsan. You can also find flower fields, rock formations, hanging bridges and other beaches!

Maybe you’re wondering how I took the photos when I’m just alone. Well, you just have to look for a safe object or area to put your phone and set it on a timer! Then there it is! The photos are much better than my sister shots.
