Yang Joon-il, a musician living ahead of his time, ranked second on the Gaon Chart

Singer Yang Joon-il is being called a time traveler, or a true genius whose artistic works have only started to be recognized by the public some 30 years after his songs were released in the early 1990s.

Singer Yang Joon-il ranked second on the Gaon Chart’s social chart 2.0 following the KPOP sensation BTS.

The Korea Music Content Association, a division that runs Gaon Charts, released various chart rankings for the second week of 2020 (January 5-11).

According to the report, BTS ranked first in social chart 2.0, which provides an intuitive look at the artist’s global popularity, while Yang Joon-il took second place.

The most popular content on BTS’ V LIVE channel during the aggregation period was a comeback trailer of BTS “Map of the Soul: 7 Interlude Shadow.” The attractive keywords obtained as a result of mycelebs’ big data analysis were “Stylish” and “Hot-Dramatic Visual.” Yang Joon-il’s mycelebs attractive keywords for the second place were “idol-like” and “Syndrome.”

On the same day, Gaon Chart also revealed its ranking on digital charts and streaming charts. According to the report, Changmo’s “METEOR” has topped digital charts and streaming charts for three consecutive weeks. The OST “My Love” from the drama “Dr. Romantic 2,” which included Baekhyun of group EXO, topped the download chart and the BGM chart.

In the second week of the album chart, the album “TREASURE EPILOGUE: Action to Answer” by ATEEZ topped the list.

Yang Joon-il debuted in 1990 but failed to gain the spotlight despite his passion and talent. He had tried to start a career in the United States but failed yet again due to his contract with his agency. He recently gained attention through JTBC’s “Sugarman 3” – a program dedicated to finding and rediscovering old singers from the past.
