Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, where visitors can enjoy various cultural and artistic performances and cherry blossoms, has been established as Korea’s representative spring festival.
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Chae Hyun-il, head of the district office) announced on that the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival won the grand prize in the “2019 Korea Festival Content Awards.”
Starting with the award for excellence in the production of the festival program in 2016, he has won awards for festival tourism in 2017 and 2018, and has gained the status of cultural and tourism cities internationally.

The Korea Festival Content Awards are sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) to select festivals that contribute to regional development and economic revitalization.
The evaluation selected 90 regional festivals nationwide, including festival differentiation, originality, content item, development, and operational performance, and selected excellent festivals for festival contents, tourism, economy, and arts and traditions.
Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, which marks the beginning of spring every year, is held in Yeouido, the back of the National Assembly. With 1,886 royal cherry trees and 87,000 spring flowers of 13 species, including azaleas, forsythias the average over 60 years old cherry blossom trees, the spring flowers are in full bloom every year.
In addition, the festival created the best festival environment, such as vehicle control, improvement of the walking environment, maintenance of the landscape lighting, and expansion of convenience facilities, and contributed to revitalizing the local economy and tourism industry by linking tourist sites and shopping malls nearby.
Meanwhile, this year’s Yeouido Spring Flower Festival will run for a total of seven days from April 5 to April 11. “We will develop unique contents of Yeongdeungpo Bay that combine flowers and art to secure competitiveness,” said the head of the Yeongdeungpo District Office. “We will also push forward various cultural projects so that the Spring Flower Festival can be reborn as a global art festival that extends beyond Korea to the world.”
